I purchased your latest RadeonHD 2.4 driver just recently.
That's a Sea Islands GPU. I'm not sure when support for those will be added, so there probably won't be any testing with that card any time soon. When that day comes, though, I guess that you'll be ready...

I purchased your latest RadeonHD 2.4 driver just recently.

My new GPU card shows the following on the card:

GV-R736OC-2GD rev 1.0

On the box it shows:

PCI-E 3.0/2GB GDDR5/128 bit
HDMI/Dual-Link DVI-I/DVI-D/DP

I bought it for my nephews PC but it doesn't appear to work.
Maybe because it says minimum 500w and the PC has 480w but it clarifies if you also have fast i7.
Their PC only has Dual Core CPU so I'm not sure why it won't do anything at all?

Anyhow, thanks for the work you've done and look forward to your future work.

With the Radeon HD driver and the Radeon HD6670 the performance for an entry level AmigaNG machine is amazing .
The Sam440ep-Flex is my daytime Office Amiga NG machine so I get to use it for
long periods on work days.

Today marks two years since I started using the RadeonHD driver and a PCI to PCIE adapter with my Sam440ep-flex. I am now using a RadeonHD 6670 low profile card and the combination is lovely.

I'm a little surprised that there are still Radeon HD 6xxx cards that don't handle a soft-reset correctly with version 0.55. Having said that, these cards were never designed for a soft-reset. AFAIK only AmigaOS does a soft reset; all other OSes have hard-reset only. IMHO, the soft-reset has always been a bit flaky, even before the RadeonHD driver existed.

Regarding the early boot menu, I've found getting into the boot menu and booting with no startup sequence to be difficult since I switched from using a PS/2 mouse on my (now dead) A1-XE to using USB mice. That includes all machines used since, including the Sam460ex.

I guess that I'll add your card to the compatibility list as partially working. I don't have the time to work on getting every single individual card working, which is why I recommend that people buy a card that's known to be working. You can do this either by buying from an AmigaOS dealer, or by checking the compatibility list. Having said that, are you able to capture debug logs via the serial port?

I asked because I have only had two cards out of about 10 that did not show any Uboot with any output option or work at all on the Sam460ex. One of these two would show Uboot on a Sam440ep-flex but only work if workbench was 1440x900 or less. A third card works ok on the Sam640ex but would only show workbench on the Sam440ep-flex using a vga to dvi converter or if the monitor was powered off during AmigOS 4.1 boot and then turned back on after the boot jingle was heard. none of these were 7000 series cards though.
The 6670 is a good choice for the Sam460ex The composite score on the 2d benchmarks are very good and I could feel a speed difference when I turned back on my Sam46ex after installing one for the first time. My OEM (HP) HD6670 model is quirky with the Uboot display. Uboot will only display on VGA output.I have both VGA and HDMI connected to the Monitor . Looks like it uses VGA output for Uboot and then switches to HDMI when Workbench loads.On My Sam440ep-Flex dvi output works perfectly with the same card showing Uboot and Workbench.

yes spectre , i change the resolutions , and try all the video exit on the radeon but nothing to do looklike the "vitualized amiga os 4.1 kickstart" crash or dont do the post... i dont know of to explain...

I know there are too much variables , can be incompatibility with motherboard, with sam x86 emulator , with the radeon.chip too much variables...
hope this can help hans do optimized his job for the future guys who will buy my same videoboard .
I today ordered the hd 6670 low profile just because warp3d will be compatible with this videoboard and not whit 7750 ...

Have you tried setting your sceen mode prefs to 1024x768 with your radeon HD4650 and saving them at this setting then try the HD7750 ?

sku: 11202-13-20G

My motherboard is a Sam 460ex 1017ghz. Revison B (the redone)

Uboot boot can see the bios loading and the setting setup ... but after loading the kicklayout modules the monitor goes in stanby and nothing more.

Okay, please try installing the sam460ex_setup program, and let me know if that makes a difference.

Also, I really do need the full details of your card, and by that I mean the full card name and SKU# (as requested above). See the compatibility list for examples of the information that I need. I cannot add your card to the list otherwise.

Sadly, there is little that I can do to help you with this card at this time. Figuring out why your card doesn't work is like finding a needle in a haystack with the added complication that you can't see the haystack.

Im thinking to buy another one videoboard ... about of your experience how will be the best choose for fast rendering 2d and 3d and future warp3d compatibility?

The Warp3D driver that is under development will be for the Radeon HD 5xxx-6xxx range (excluding the Radeon HD 69xx series, as those are too different). Exactly which card depends on what you want, but I strongly recommend getting a mid to high-end card such as a Radeon HD 6670. The Radeon HD 6670 is noticeably faster than the 6570, and I have one that fits into a single slot: Sapphire Radeon HD 6670 Low Profile (11192-18-40G).

I never installed the setup program from acube, i have try all the video exit of the video board and check if there was some strange patches on kicklayout, startup sequence and user startup sequence.
i disabled the onchipmem.kmod from acube.

After i decide to use the sil video on board and boot in the system, this was today.

Sorry for the late reply, I totally missed this thread.

Anyway, specifically which model are you talking about? What's its SKU#. Sapphire make several Radeon HD 7750s, and just because one works fine doesn't mean that another will too.

Which output have you tested? VGA? DVI/HDMI? Or both? If you haven't tried them all, then it's worth testing the various different outputs, including VGA from the DVI ports with a DVI-VGA adaptor.

Do you have sam460ex_setup installed? If so, then its worth disabling it; if not, then try installing it (and adding it to your startup-sequence). Mozzerfan reported that removing sam460ex_setup solved his intermittent black screen on booting problems ( http://hdrlab.org.nz/forums/amiga-os-projects/show/105?start=16#post554 ).

Unfortunately, there is no way that I can guarantee that all models will work. So, if you cannot get your card to work, then I'll add it to the compatibility list as a card to avoid (once you've given me the full details). You may want to have a look at the compatibility list, and choose a different card. You'll find that list at:

I guess so. Before installing update 6 I had deactivated usb2 in my kicklayout file.
Update 6 comes with a new kicklayout file, so all kickstart files were activated again.

Anyway, I'm happy again, but I'm still having my fingers crossed.

I was happily running my system for over a month without a black screen.
After installing update 6 at the beginning of this month (december) the black screens were back.
After cursing a couple of times I then came to the conclusion the problem had to have something to do with the kicklayout file (kickstart files). I have deactived the old radeon driver, the voodoo driver, the onboard sata driver and bootmouse and bootkeyboard and I am now running my system for about 3 weeks without a black screen. Hopefully it finally stays this way (crossing my fingers).

Btw. i can confirm that Uboot shows only a blinking cursor with HD-Cards when choose external PCI-Slot instead of onboard M9 in the UBoot-Settings! The Onboard Radeon M9 then shows nothing or garbarge when workbench is loading or loaded, this is a safe sign that the switch to external display inside uboot is working. The blinking cursor of the radeonhd-card vanished when kickstart files are loaded and initialisied, then you see bootpicture and later workbench screen.

This seems to be an issue of the newest UBoot-Version 1.3.1d availble for the sam440ep mini-itx. Why?
A Radeon9250 try to display the initial uboot-screen but flickering and monitor says "out of scanrange".

Its no big deal for me, but maybe worth to fix.

I have an x1300 pci too that did the same thing until version 0.53 of the driver.
Since version 0.54 there seems to be some negative effect on the audio output as the sound quality is crackly .

Hey that my result.
This score was done using VNC to control the machine .
This is the video card that will only work at 1024x768 or 1440x900 for displays to the monitor on the Sam440ep-flex and no monitor display at all on the Sam460ex.
Apparently rtg.library DMA only works on the first PCI slot (the 66Mhz) one on the Sam440ep-Flex.
Not sure about the Sam440ep-Itx's single 33mhz slot . This since update 3.

When i try to turn DMA on with:
setenv save Picasso96/USEDMA 1
The SAM440ep mini freezing after pressing enter

And when rebooting it stops all hdd-activites after showing the amigaos4.1 bootlogo (after fadeout)

Before my onboard Radeon M9 broke, DMA work with the onboard-device.

Maybe A-Cube don't enable it for the only one (emergency) 33Mhz PCI-Slot that the SAm440ep mini offers.

Are your results from a 33Mhz PCI-Slot without DMA?

And annother question:
I have also a ATI Radeon X1300 - 256MB A676-00C here, but it doesn't show bootscreen or workbench, but the workbench boots up with startsound. But as you wrote, the x1300 is much older and slower than hd-series!?

I'm surprised that DMA isn't enabled, because I know for a fact that DMA is used on the Sam440-flex.

Since it's the same CPU,** it should be enabled on the Sam440ep too. Are you sure that you haven't disabled DMA somehow via the ENV variable?

If DMA doesn't work with the 33 MHz slot, then this is news to me.

But i did change the output-device in Uboot from internal to external.

I will try some setups with the sam440_setup utility and hopw i can get better results/experience with radeon 9250 or my hd2400xt

I did have the SAM440ep_utility in place since first release.

I think the biggest break is the fact that the SAM440ep mini PCI is just running with 33Mhz instead of 66Mhz and Direct Memory Access can´t be turned on for it. So the breake breaks two the times

Here are the results for the Memcopy part of the GfxBench2D that I did a few weekes ago on my Sam440ep-Flex 800Mhz .Using the second slot # 33mHz and the first slot # 66MHz. Note the write pixel array score is almost 10 times faster with DMA and a 66mhz slot.I have the Sam440ep_setup utility enabled.This is with a Radeon HD5670 and adapter .

33mhz with DMA off

Try runing the Sam440ep_Setup utility to speed up your system with the adapter .
Note the settings to set the speedup for the secondary graphics card.

What it does:

* on some Sam440ep boards, the MMUCR register is not set correctly at bootstrap.
This leads to poor write L1 cache performances.
The utility check the register, and if needed, modify it.

* on all Sam440ep boards with a Radeon card enables read prefetching for graphic ram.
If a Radeon card is detected, the utility will modify the POM2 PCI registers to
enable read prefetching.
This speed up reads for the gfx card from 15 MB/s to 30 MB/s on a M9 card.

* set the Latency Timer on the 440ep PCI Bridge,
With this new setting read speed increase around 50% on Radeon PCI cards
(up to 42 MB/s on a M9 card) and around 200% on RadeonHD PCI cards

SAM440ep(mini) Radeon9250 vs HD2400XT

Hello,

i own the SAM440ep(mini) and my onboard M9 died some month ago. So i put an Radeon9250 on the PCI-Slot. Sadly the Slot is only 33Mhz and DMA don't work, that makes it terrible slow in compare with the 66Mhz DMA onboard M9.

Because of Science and Support, i bought the HD-Driver to Support this great Project.

I test a HD2400XT that i found in our Companys Electro-Recycle-Bin. The Adaptor is this PEX8112 thing.

Here are the Results:

The Compositing-Performance is much better, but why is the Memory-Performance of the HD2400xt not better than the 9250?

DMA turned on with the RadeonHD-Driver don't seem to work.

Is DMA on the SAM440ep(mini) not supported?

Infact i only need fast Web-Browsing (scrolling of pages after load), so is it possible with this system or should i upgrade to 460ex?

I'm running my system for 4 weeks now without the sam460ex_setup utility and I'm happy to say that I haven't had a black screen since I removed the program from wbstartup.
Maybe the program won't cause any trouble if I would start it from user-startup or startup-sequence, but I haven't tested that yet. When I don't get the the black screen when the program is running, I can't notice any speedup though ( I checked with gfxbench), so I really see no point anymore to run it.

So to sum it up:
sam460ex_setup works great with my 4650 with update 4 and I get a speedup when running it.
sam460ex_setup causes black screens with my 6570 ultimate with update 4 and 5 and it also doesn't have any effect when I don't get the black screen.

Just testing my 6850 in the X1000.

- ASUS
- EAH6850 DIRECT CU - This one needs 2 PCI-e connectors. Double slot card.
- 0x6739 (Barts PRO [Radeon HD 6800 Series])
- The manufacturer's ID 0X1002
- 0.53
- Works well. The RHDRTest_R700 demo gives a flashing grey screen

My HD6570 is also working ok now with my Sam460ex. Still the same problem needing a VGA adapter on the Sam440ep-Flex.Could it be that version 0.53 of the Radeon HD driver solves the issues on the Sam460ex ?. My last Sam460ex test was around the 06Sep12 with driver version 0.49 and I had the same problem. The 0.53 version of the driver is dated 18Sep12 .

Interesting. If confirmed, then this information should be passed on to ACube, as it should help them to track down and fix whatever is causing trouble in your particular card's case.

Regarding the black screen problem:

I totally forgot that I had the sam460EX_setup program from acube running on my system.
This program never caused any trouble with my 4650, and it actually speed up the performance of my 4650 with update 4.
4 days ago I checked my wbstartup programs and noticed I still use the program.
I removed it from wbstartup, and since then I haven't had a black screen.
It's still way to soon though to say if this caused the black screen problem.
I will post the result if I know some more.

BTW, I don't even know if the program is still needed with update 5.

Yes. I have both an A1-X1000 and a Sam460ex, and I tested it in both.

My deductions were based on 2 cards giving different results between a Sam440ep-flex and a Sam460ex.These being a 6770 and a 5670. All but one of the many cards that I tested , a 6750, showed Uboot on the Flex. Two would not show Uboot on the Sam460ex, the 6750 and a 6770.
I hope that Acube will be able to shed some light on the issue soon.The last card that I tested on the Sam460ex was a HD5550 with no problems. So some newer cards do work on this machine.

Not necessarily. It could mean that the Windows drivers have workarounds to hide hardware bugs/problems. For example, at least one of the 6570s with the intermittent black screen issues "Works under Windows." Nevertheless, that card perform intermittently when using the exact same driver code that works 100% of the time with the majority of that specific model. You can't tell me that "that's normal and the cards are fine." No, that suggests that there is some sort of workaround that makes suspect boards work; if only we knew what it was...

I realise that we're talking about multiple different issues, but I hope that I have illustrated my point.

Incidentally, a quick search on the internet shows that such issues with Radeon HD cards are not restricted to just AmigaOS...

I understand. Not many other users have tested these models on the Sams (I know of one other person with a Sam440ep-flex plus PCI to PCIe adpater and a radeon 5770 had the same resolution issues as my 6770).But you have seen how people will react if things don't go as they expect. I know alot of things are out of your hands too.The cards all work ok under Windows so I assume that they are good.

I have added notes to the Sam 4x0 entries on the compatibility list page. I'm a bit uneasy about this as it's still not certain what the root cause it. It could be UBoot problems, but it could also be something else. It could even be the specific cards that were tested. For example, I have a Sapphire Radeon HD 6570 (11191-26-20G) that works perfectly in both my Sam460ex and A1-X1000. However, some batches of this card appear to be bad, and have intermittent black screen on booting problems. Most people with this specific model have one of the good ones though.

Given the heat generated by the news about Warp3d for drivers Radeon HD 5xxx and 6xxx cards and not for series 4xxx cards it may be time to put up a note of caution regarding Sam machines and Radeon HD 5770,6750 ,6770 and some 6570 cards until Acube can confirm if there is a problem with the these and the current Uboot.
